No writing today, I just want to spread awareness of my favourite week-long charity gaming event.
‘Games Done Quick is a bi-annual charity gaming marathon. Volunteers play games at incredible speed (“Speedrunning”) for entertainment. The event is streamed live online, non-stop, and all donations go directly to the charity.’
It’s a lot of fun seeing people race through and completely destroy all of my childhood games. There’s commentary, races, donation incentives and loads more (two players speedran Super Metroid sharing one controller earlier). This year, all donations go to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and they’ve already raised over $340,000 just four days in.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, here’s the link to their site where you can watch the event live until it finishes on the 10th January. (Here’s the schedule in case you want to check which games they’ll be playing through this year).
