Everyone has probably already seen this, because it’s JK Rowling and she makes headlines when she eats cake, but last week she posted some of her letters of rejection she received when submitting to publishers under her pen name, Robert Galbraith.
I have no plans to pursue the traditional publishing route so I probably won’t have to face a mountain of rejections, but it is reassuring to know that even one of the more famous present day authors gets rejected when her work isn’t carried by her brand. I’m not saying this to slight her writing (I couldn’t criticise it even if I wanted to considering I’ve never read a Harry Potter book), but instead to point out that editors are just normal people who judge work based on their own opinions and personal tastes.
So if you’re working on your own personal stack of rejection letters, then I wouldn’t worry. It probably just means you haven’t put your work under the nose of the right person yet.
